Mower County District Court History
The official courthouse history ties Mower County court operations to Austin's role as county seat. Austin's first courthouse was completed in 1868, eleven years after Austin became the county seat, at a cost of $6,450. The village of Ramsey later tried without success to secure the county seat, and that pressure may have led to the 1884 courthouse. The 1884 building cost $64,817 and was a three-story red brick courthouse over a high limestone basement in Italianate style, with a Roman Renaissance turret and dome above the central pavilion.
The current court setting grew from later additions and remodeling. The 1952 and 1966 additions eventually became the courthouse after the older building was demolished. The 1952 section used pink Kasota limestone and gray Bedford stone from Indiana. A 1975 city-county law enforcement center was added behind the lobby. A late-1990s remodeling and addition added courtroom, court administration, and law-enforcement office space and changed the main entrance.

Mower County District Court Location
Mower County does not have a roster of separate numbered District Courts in different cities.
